NOAA RESEARCH OFFICE HONORS LOCAL STAFFER Paul Griffin, an electronics technician at the National Severe Storms Laboratory in Norman, was selected as one of the 1998 Employees of the Year by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research. Griffin was honored for being instrumental in improving the National Severe Storms Laboratory's mobile observing capabilities and in providing excellent support in the field efforts of the lab. "Paul is an extraordinarily self motivated and hard working employee," said lab director Dr. James Kimpel. "His work with the mobile atmospheric observatory and mobile mesonets put NSSL at the forefront of using mobile facilities to gather in situ scientific data." He and the other six individuals honored recently in Silver Spring, Maryland, were chosen from 17 nominations submitted to the OAR Personnel Management Advisory Committee. "These individuals are representative of the dedicated and talented people we have working throughout NOAA's research areas," said David L. Evans, Assistant Administrator of NOAA. "But these seven have been chosen for their exceptional abilities and commitment to NOAA and the nation." NOAA's mission is to describe and predict changes in the earth's environment and to conserve and manage wisely the nation's coastal and marine resources.
